Description:

Principal Power / Electronics Engineer for a manufacturing company specializing in vacuum and controlled atmosphere melting furnaces serving the specialty metals industry.

The Principal Power / Electronics Engineer is responsible for participating in the research, design, and development of products for the power systems for specialty melting furnaces.  The successful candidate will be familiar with inverter technology, power conversion systems, SCR, IGBT, transformers, and power distribution systems.

The Principal Power / Electronics Engineer must be able to participate in a team environment, while managing their own assigned responsibilities. Responsibilities also include providing technical leadership to a small team of engineers, completing projects to a schedule and budget, and participating in the definition of hardware architectures for future products.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain existing products in conjunction with part obsolescence and new feature additions
  • Innovate new product features and bring new technologies into product architecture
  • Provide technical leadership in the realm of power systems design and power transmission
  • Keep current with new technologies and their applications in the relevant field
  • Evaluate and advise management on industry trends in existing market segments, new market trends, and growth opportunities
  • Travel to site for system startup / troubleshooting as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering – M.S. preferred.
  • 8+ years of Industrial equipment design experience.
  • Hands on experience with power generating devices
  • Design and specification experience with SCR’s, IGBT’s, inverters, transformers, inductors, and filters
  • Excellent technical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently, including management and execution of large projects.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • Simulation with PSIM or other relevant software
