In the late 1960s and early 1970s
Consarc developed and patented the coaxial electroslag
remelt (ESR) furnace, and demonstrated the metallurgical
benefits of melting in a coaxial furnace with a high
fill ratio. Since that time, this ESR furnace design
has become the standard for melting high quality materials.
Some features of the modern Consarc ESR are:
- Fully coaxial
- Precision electrode drive
- Fully automated melt control
- X-Y electrode centering
- Inert gas melting capable
- Dry air melting capable
- Slab ingot capable
Consarc has built the world’s largest single
electrode static ESR with a final ingot weight of
110,000 kg. Consarc also builds electrode change furnaces
utilizing withdrawal melt stations and two head three
melt station furnace combining both single electrode
static and multiple electrode withdrawal melting into
one system. |
