February, 10 2011 – Muroran Hokkaido, Japan – The Japan Steel Works has received from Consarc Corporation, Rancocas, NJ USA the complete shipment of a 150T Electroslag Remelting (ESR) plant. When commissioned, this system will be the largest single electrode static melting ESR plant in the world, giving The Japan Steel Works unmatched ESR capabilities and enabling them to maintain their position as the premier supplier of large forged rotor shafts. The ESR furnace system consists of two furnace heads with two melt stations, and is capable of melting a single 150T electrode, or multiple smaller electrodes simultaneously, under complete inert gas cover. It utilizes proprietary power systems designed and built by Consarc specifically for this large scale ESR application. |

Mr. Daniel Hennessy, Sr. V.P. - Manufacturing accepts the award for Latrobe Specialty Steel |
[June 22, 2010] – NY, New York: On the evening of June 22, 2010 at the American Metal Market ‘Steel Success Strategies Conference’ award dinner in New York City, Latrobe Specialty Steel’s VIM-VAR expansion project won the inaugural AMM Award for Excellence for Best Operational Improvement. This project tripled Latrobe’s capacity for vacuum melted steels which reduced the lead times for these strategic products from approximately 72 weeks to 20 weeks. This is the second award this project has received this year. In January, the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) presented Latrobe Specialty Steel with the 2009 Project Excellence Award.
Consarc Corporation, an Inductotherm Group Company, who was responsible for the manufacturing and installation of Latrobe’s new Consarc VIM system, maintained an aggressive schedule starting in mid December 2007 that put liquid metal in the VIM system in September 2008.
Along with the 30T Vacuum Induction Melting furnace, Consarc also delivered three additional Vacuum Arc Remelting furnaces, all part of this $62M expansion project.
